San Francisco Opera Guild Call for Teaching Artists!
San Francisco Opera Guild is seeking qualified teaching artists for fall 2024 and spring 2025 residencies at Greater Bay Area and Northern California school sites.
Book to Bravo! and Voices for Social Justice are 12 week programs in which two teaching artists partner with a classroom for 90 minutes a week, helping students write and perform original musical stories (operettas and musicals).
We are currently hiring artists for two roles:
- Music Director/Composer: teach basic vocal skills and technique, help students write original melodies and songs, accompany students on piano and provide audio tracks for practice.
- Director/Playwright: teach basic speech/acting skills, guide students in writing dialogue and lyrics, synthesize final script, direct and choreograph final production
Candidates in both roles should have substantial experience working with young artists (ages 8-14) and have a working knowledge of live theater practice.
Paid professional development/training is provided. Programs start in September 2024 and January 2025.
Employee compensation:
- Training: $35 an hour
- Prep (up to 16 hours for 12-week class): $25 an hour
- Team Teaching: $70 an hour
- Mileage paid at $0.67 a mile
- Tolls reimbursed.
