Overview

Following last season's sold out concert of Beethoven 9, Eun Sun Kim returns to conduct the San Francisco Opera Orchestra onstage with Beethoven's glorius, fate-propelled Fifth Symphony, acclaimed by E.M. Forster as "the most sublime noise that has ever penetrated into the human ear." The concert also features Spanish composer Manuel de Falla's evocative Seven Popular Songs (Siete Canciones Populares Españolas), featuring beloved San Francisco Opera artist, Daniela Mack, who recently portrayed Frida Kahlo, and his fiery The Three-Cornered Hat (El Sombrero de Tres Picos).     Rigoletto

    Gossip is Rigoletto’s stock-in-trade. As the court jester to a womanizing duke, there is plenty of scandal to go around, and his sharp tongue keeps him in gainful employment.

    Dead Man Walking

    Joseph De Rocher has been sentenced to death for murder. Armed with her faith, Sister Helen Prejean is accompanying him on his death row journey.

    Parsifal

    The Knights of the Holy Grail are in decline. Their ruler, Amfortas, is ailing from an unhealable wound. While the knight Gurnemanz wistfully recalls the prophecy of a guileless youth who will restore the order, he refuses to believe that the naive, young man before him could be that savior.

    The Monkey King

    A monkey born from stone, Sun Wukong (the Monkey King) is determined to find immortality for his tribe. Many scoff at his aspirations, but he is set on proving them wrong with his signature cunning and charm.

    A jack-of-all trades, the wily barber Figaro has a scheme for everything. Moved by the distress of two young lovers separated by the curmudgeonly Doctor Bartolo, Figaro pulls out his bag of tricks.

    Elektra

    In a brutal world where revenge is enacted with the axe, Klytämnestra has murdered her husband Agamemnon. Their daughter Elektra is consumed by her grief and is fixated on vengeance against her mother. Justice must be served.
